Music is in my blood. My grandfather played bass with Bill Haley & the Comets. I like to think I’m making him proud.
I’ve made my living as a DJ since 1994, including really cool projects “Someone Else” and “Flowchart”. I have lived in Germany since 2006, but have played all over North America, South America, Western Europe, Russia and Japan.
Here’s just a bit of what we can cover in our PivotPlanet sessions:
• DJing with vinyl;
• Performing live (dance music);
• Producing music with a computer;
• Traveling tips as a DJ;
• Marketing yourself as a DJ
• How to run a record label; and
• Tips on the European market.
I started out my career as a music journalist and wrote for the CMJ Monthly, XLR8R, Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia City Paper, AOL and many other publications. This background introduced me to a diverse and eclectic variety of music and that really was the basis of my career as a DJ.
I now work as a live DJ and I travel and perform almost every week. I spin vinyl dance music and I also produce in a studio. My productions and remixes are released by various artists and record labels on a monthly basis. I don’t make a lot of money from my vinyl releases, but they help generate live gigs which is where I make the majority of my income.
Touring in Europe and earning the Euro has given me a life where I have enough money to live a good life and pay my expenses with ease. I do this music thing full time! I don’t have to hold down another job and that makes me very happy.
A fun factoid: I was voted the Best Live Act in Groove Magazine (Germany) in 2006.
