Travelling the world -- especially South Asia -- and writing are my two greatest passions in life. Being a travel writer and blogger, enables me to bring these two passions together to create my dream job and pursue my ideal lifestyle. I love the freedom and creativity; I really feel I am living my life and experiencing the beauty of the world.
I've been freelance writing since 2003 and travel writing since 2006. My work has been published in many magazines, newspapers and online sites. In 2009, I launched Breathedreamgo, an India-inspired and meaningful adventure travel blog.
Today, Breathedreamgo is one of the world's top professional travel blogs ranking 103 among the millions of travel blogs written. Breathedreamgo has won awards here in my home country, Canada, and has been named one of India's top 50 blogs. I've been travelling in India since 2005 and am widely known for my expert advice on travel in the country.
Travel writing and blogging is a dream profession many people want to pursue. However, it is not an easy way to make a living, and you need to know how to pitch, write, work with editors, build a blog audience and much more. As a published writer and an award-winning blogger, I have a wealth of experience to share.
Here’s a bit of what we can cover in our PivotPlanet session(s):
• How to follow your dreams of writing or travelling.
• How to make money as a travel writer and blogger.
• The ins and outs of the freelance writing business.
• Ways to improve your writing.
• How to become a travel blogger and develop your niche.
• How to travel safely and well in India.
I've been writing most of my life. After graduating with a bachelor of arts in journalism, I worked in public relations and marketing communications for many years. Over the years I worked for many significant Canadian brands such as Flare Magazine, Famous Players Theatres, Sympatico, the Bank of Montreal, Wind Mobile, Travel and Escape and many others.
However, I didn’t enjoy my role as a “hired gun”, and in my forties I decided it was time to follow my true passion for writing. I now write from my heart and soul about things I have an interest in and am 100% passionate about.
There are no short cuts to becoming a successful writer and blogger. Over the years I have learned a lot about pitching your writing, understanding technology, living with an uncertain revenue stream, using social media and the importance of creating a blogging niche. There is nothing like building and managing your own brand to teach you how to utilize social media to tell stories, extend brand awareness and build community and relationships. I have also learned if you want to have a successful blog and make money, you have to have a viable business plan.
I have received virtually thousands of positive emails, comments, tweets and messages about the quality of my writing, and how I inspire others by relentlessly overcoming obstacles and following my passions and dreams. I am proud I have inspired others; and I am proud of the quality of my writing.
There is only one truth, and that is your truth. Your job is to find out who you really are, what you really want and what your unique contribution to the world will be. If it is travelling, going to India, writing or travel writing I can help. If you simply want to FIND your passion, I can help. My blog is called Breathedreamgo for a reason. Breathe, dream, go is a mantra, a formula. Take a deep breath; get in contact with your dreams; and go live them.
