Ever since I was little, I wanted to save the world. As a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist, I may not be doing quite that, but I know each day I am helping people. That sense of purpose and meaning is invaluable, as is the freedom to set my own hours and work in an intellectually challenging profession.
I have worked in the field of psychiatry since 1997 and have a successful private practice. I offer direct service and consultation working with multiple cultures – not just ethnicities, but also medical, legal and political entities. I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and have a subspecialty certification in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Here’s a bit of what we can cover in our PivotPlanet session(s):
• How to develop a plan to determine your interest in psychiatry.
• How to decide what course of action works for you.
• How to set boundaries in working with patients.
• Understanding the importance of integrity in this profession.
• How to gain confidence and not be afraid to change careers.
• How to set up your own practice.
• How to work effectively with professionals in other fields.
My areas of expertise are anxiety, depression, ADHD, pregnancy and post-partum issues. Home calls and nursing home visits are also part of my practice. I am affiliated with CPMC and am part of their psychiatric consultation-liaison team.
Ever since graduating from Princeton, I have advocated for patients and physicians. I have worked on forensic cases dealing with determining competency to draft a will; the ability to give informed consent; the effects of substances; immigration issues and others. I am a qualified medical examiner for workers’ compensation and disability evaluation and have also worked as an expert consultant for the United States Department of Justice. I have been active in health care reform and am an expert on the Affordable Care Act.
I have a column in the San Francisco Chronicle, and my experience working as a consultant with the media includes appearing on KTVU news, CBS-5 KPIX news and Univision, as well providing commentary for radio shows.
