Pfeiffer Vineyards and Winery
In business for more than 35 years, Pfeiffer Winery is a boutique winery specializing in hand-crafted, artisan wines. We run a green facility and are the only solar-powered winery in the South Willamette Valley.
Our wines have won numerous awards and we’re honored that our 2007 Pinot Noir Blue Dot Reserve was served at the Obama Inauguration.
We are well known for our Pinot Clinics, in which visitors learn to judge and sip wine like the pros.
At the height of season, we have 40 employees and in the off season 9 people work on-site in the vineyard and tasting room. Since we only produce 1,200 barrels a year, our wines are only available via our mailing list or at our tasting room.
Our life is our work. We are part of the soil and the sun. Living in a vineyard and enjoying great food and wine is a superb way to live. Being your own boss, nurturing a very fine product, and having it well received on the world market is a thrill. Most days it doesn't feel like work. The vineyard seduced us. It chose us, not the other way around. We were compelled to live in it, love it, and grow with it.
Robin grew up on the family farm that became a vineyard in the late 70's. Our wines have been served to presidents and prime ministers. We have a niche market of high-end wine aficionados.
Prior to becoming wine makers, Danuta worked as a broadcast journalist and talk show host and Robin was a Spanish teacher. We met and married after Robin planted the vineyard and we developed the winery together as a "retirement career."
We are kept busy with wine maker dinners, growing grapes, tasting wines, and hospitality.
There is a lot to learn in the wine business, from viticulture to wine making, tasting room techniques, accounting, and marketing. With effort, focus and learning as a winemaker, you could have your own label within about 3 to 5 years by leasing a space in an established winery. Or if you have deep pockets, you could buy a turnkey operation and begin your own winery right away.
We suggest working in a tasting room or wine cellar to get your feet wet and your lips red.
We look forward to providing you the real-deal ins and outs of owning a vineyard and being a wine maker!
