The Mediation Institute
I enjoy being a mediator as it gives me the opportunity to help people resolve conflict and to educate the public about alternative approaches to conflict resolution that allows people to break out of the adversarial, win-lose approach. I believe I am riding a wave, which is helping people figure out new and peaceful ways to be together or apart. My work is deeply satisfying.
I am the director and founder of The Mediation Institute, a non-profit organization, which provides mediation services and training in family, governmental and corporate arenas. We have five employees in three locations with annual sales of $300K. In addition to a full-time mediation practice, the Institute hosts mediation training classes to train professionals in mediation and conflict resolution skills. We are the premier training organization in several states.
Here’s just a bit of what we can cover in our PivotPlanet sessions:
• The mediation process...learn the art of questioning, clarification and restatement to identify each party’s issues and interests.
• Communication skills….practice skills and techniques to facilitate discussion and understanding between the parties.
• Consensus building...enhance your ability to help employee’s discover common areas of interest that lead to resolution.
• How to build a successful private mediation practice in your area.
The Mediation Institute has had the fortune of educating some of the areas most qualified mediators in family, divorce, civil and employment mediation. Past clients include, judges, mayors, tribal leaders and professionals from the legal, education, psychology, real estate and human resource industries.
I have successfully marketed mediation services and training to thousands of individuals having worked in 30 states and 10 countries. For five years, I worked in Egypt, India and Indonesia. Most of this work is focused on helping groups achieve consensus and agreement regarding future directions.
I have taught mediation and negotiation at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City University School of Law and the University of Central Oklahoma.
I hold a Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary, a BA from the University of Illinois and attended Louisiana State University Law School. I am a member and past president of the Oklahoma Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators and a Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution.
