Every day I wake up excited for the upcoming challenge of racing sports cars. No coffee is needed. The thrill of driving race cars, crewing on the car and hanging with the team is an all-natural stimulant.
I am the race team manager for Automatic Racing located in Orlando, Florida. Our team of ten individuals owns four specially tuned race cars that compete in Nascar’s Grand American Continental Sports Car Challenge Series, the most competitive sports car racing series in America. We handle all aspects of the race car including: driver coaching, team managing, engineering, mechanics, fueling, tire changes and everything in between.
Here’s a bit of what we can cover in our PivotPlanet session(s):
• How to manage a successful effort.
• How to coordinate a fast pit stop.
• How to drive a race car.
• How to handle the politics of racing.
• How to prepare a race car.
Our team has more consecutive entries in the series than any other effort in the paddock. The team is well respected and often used as a model for car racing.
I was fortunate that my father raced cars. So, as a pre-teen I was traveling and crewing for him. During this early period of my life I realized this was the only career path for me........driving race cars. I have been doing just that since 1991.
Automatic Racing was fortunate enough to win the Grand American Team and Drivers Championship. I am very proud to be a part of winning this championship. We have also qualified on numerous poles and are a front running team.
Racing was always for me, and I love what I do. I have learned a lot over the years. There are few special tricks that make up a successful race team, but commitment and work ethic are key. The reality is there is no substitute for hard work.
