Threshold Collaborative
As a nonprofit founder and executive director, I have worked to support justice and strengthen empathy throughout my life. My work allows for tremendous freedom and creativity, deep connections with diverse people all over the country and engagement in efforts that make the world a better place.
Raising more than $80,000,000, I founded three game-changing organizations, Sanctuary for Families, CONNECT and Threshold Collaborative, all of which embody my dream of community well-being and peace. I started each of them with an employee or two and grew them into creative and successful organizations with as many as 75 employees and a budget as high as $7.5 million.
Here’s just a bit of what we can cover in our PivotPlanet session(s):
• How to hone your dream and communicate it effectively in a nonprofit arena.
• How to find the resources you need to make your dream a reality and how you can build on them to create or grow a nonprofit organization.
• How to use and share people’s stories to build powerful connections and garner support.
• How to see your challenges clearly and design a strategy that works for you and your situation.
• How to take a problem and turn it into an opportunity.
In the early 1990’s, I pioneered the use of oral history and community engagement to build grassroots change around the issues of family and intimate violence. My work uses stories and community engagement to create and sustain positive community change initiatives.
Some of my areas of expertise include: program design and development; fundraising and finances; strategic planning and implementation; policy reform and development, knowledge gathering and sharing; women’s issues; and social entrepreneurship, social venture and social business development.
At each phase of my career, I have worked to develop new and more creative ways of building community while seeking autonomy, independence and flexibility in my life. I have moved from working with large organizations funded mostly through grants and contributions, to founding Threshold Collaboration, a smaller agile entity funded primarily through fees for service. We partner with and teach an array of participatory strategies that address social challenges in ways that ignite empathy, inclusion, insight and impact. My innovations have been recognized through Revson, Rockefeller and Ashoka Fellowships.
People find me inspiring. I am a complex and clear thinker with a broad array of experience who is able to communicate ideas in simple ways. My success in raising millions of dollars and receiving fellowships is an indication of my ability to share a powerful vision and get things done. I am committed to living with creativity and developing positive work life balance and can help you do the same. I currently live in southern Vermont but do training and speaking across North America.
